How to Manage Mac Storage and Free Up Space

 

·     Example :- MacOS

·     Steps :-

 

1. Check your storage usage:

·     Click the Apple Menu in the top-left corner on your screen

·     Select About This Mac, from the dropdown menu.

 

·     In the About This Mac window, go to the Storage tab.

 

 

2. Open Storage Management Tool:

·     In the Storage tab, click the Manage button (it’s next to the storage bar, on the right)

                  

 

·     This will open the Storage Management window, where you can manage and optimize your storage.

 

 

3. Review Storage Recommendations:

Once in Storage Management, you’ll see a few helpful options to free up space.

·     Storage in iCloud: This will upload files to iCloud, so they’re not stored on your Mac, freeing up space.

o  Click: “Store in iCloud” to activate it, and follow the prompts.

·     Optimize Storage: Removes movies, TV shows, and email attachments you have already viewed from your Mac, but keeps them available in iCloud

o  Click: “Optimize Storage” to enable it.

·     Empty Trash Automatically: This option deletes items in your Trash after 30 days

o  Click: Empty Trash Automatically to turn it on.

 

4. Reduce Clutter:

In the Storage Management window, click on Applications in the sidebar.

·     This will all you to find and delete large files or old documents.

·     The system will show a list of flies that are taking up space.

·     Review and delete any large files or old items you no longer need by clicking the Delete button.
