How to Fix Safari Bookmarks Disappeared on Mac


·     Example: macOS

·     Steps:

 

1.  Restart Safari:

·     Sometimes, quitting and reopening Safari can fix small glitches with bookmarks.

 

               I.    In the top menu bar click on Safari and choose Quit Safari, or press Command + Q.

 

        

 

             II.    Wait for second and open Safari again from your Dock.

 

       

 

           III.    Check if your bookmarks are back.

 

2.  Make Bookmarks Visible:

·     Ensure that your bookmarks are visible in Safari.

 

               I.    Open Safari.

 

          

 

             II.    Click Bookmarks in the menu bar at the top of the screen.

           III.    Select Show Bookmarks to open the bookmarks sidebar.

 

         

 

3.  Toggle iCloud Bookmarks Off and On:

·     If your Bookmarks sync through iCloud, turning off and on the iCloud bookmarks option.

 

               I.    Click the Apple logo at the top-left corner and select System settings.

 

       

 

             II.    Click your Apple ID and choose iCloud.

 

            

 

           III.    Scroll down and find Safari, then turn it Off.

 

           

    

 

           IV.    Wait a moment, then turn it back On.

 

       

 

             V.    Open Safari and let iCloud sync your bookmarks.

 

4.  Restart Your Mac:

·     Sometimes, restarting your Mac can help many issues.

 

               I.    Save any work you have open.

             II.    Click the Apple logo in the top-left corner and select Restart.

 

             

 

           III.    Once your Mac restarts, open Safari to check if your bookmarks are restored.

 

5.  Restore Bookmarks From iCloud:

·     If you have backup in iCloud, you can restore your bookmarks.

 

               I.    Close Safari.

             II.    Open a different browser and go to www.icloud.com.

 

   

 

           III.    Sign in with your Apple ID.

 

        

 

           IV.    Click the grid icon at the top-right and choose Date Recovery.

 

           

 

             V.    Select Restore Bookmarks.

 

         

           VI.    Choose a backup where your bookmarks were still there and click Restore.

         VII.    Open Safari to check if your bookmarks are back.

 

6.  Recover Bookmarks Using Finder:

·     You can try to restore your bookmarks from your Mac’s saved data

 

               I.    Quit Safari by pressing Command + Q.

 

        

 

             II.    Click the Finder icon in your Dock:

 

       

 

           III.    Open Finder and click Go in the top menu. Hold Option to reveal Library and click on it.

 

         

 

           IV.    In the Library folder, open the Safari folder.

 

         

 

             V.    Find Bookmarks.plist or backup files like Bookmarks-1.plist.

 

          

 

           VI.    Copy the most recent backup fil and paste it in the same folder. Rename it to Bookmarks.plist if needed.

         VII.    Open Safari to see if you bokmarks are restore.

 

7.  Restore Safari Bookmarks from a Time Machine Backup:

·     If you have a Time Machine backup, you can restore your bookmarks to an earlier point.

 

               I.    Connect you Time Machine backup drive if its external.

             II.    Quit Safari by pressing Command + Q.

 

      

 

           III.    Click the Apple menu, select System Settings.

 

             

 

           IV.    Click General and Select Time Machine.

 

             

 

             V.    Use the timeline to go back to a date when your bookmarks were still there.

           VI.    Go to your ~/Library/Safari/ folder.

         VII.    Look for Bookmarks.plist and click Restore.

       VIII.    Open Safari to check if the bookmarks are back.
