Using Focus Modes for Work / Sleep Automatically

Focus Modes help you minimize distractions by filtering notifications and apps based on what you’re doing. Setting them to activate automatically ensures you stay productive during work hours and get uninterrupted rest at night.


⚙️Step 1: Open Focus Settings


On your iPhone or iPad:

Go to Settings Focus


On macOS:

Go to System SettingsFocus


🧑‍💻Step 2: Set Up Work Focus


1.  Tap Work (or create a new Focus by tapping the + icon).


2.  Choose Allowed Notifications:

       • Select important contacts (boss, team members, family).

       • Select essential apps (Email, Slack, Teams, etc.).


3. Customize options:

       • Turn on Silence Always or While Locked.

       • Enable Lock Screen Dim (optional).

       • Turn on Focus Filter if you want specific app filters (e.g., work email only).


🔄Step 3: Automate Work Focus


1.  Inside the Work Focus settings, tap Add Schedule or Automation.


2.  Choose one of the following:

       • Time – Set work hours (e.g., 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM).

       • Location – Activate when you arrive at your office.

       • App – Turn on when you open a specific app (e.g., Outlook).


3.  Save your automation.

Your Work Focus will now turn on automatically.


😴Step 4: Set Up Sleep Focus


1.  Go back to Focus and tap Sleep.


2.  Choose allowed contacts (e.g., emergency contacts only).


3.  Limit apps to essentials only (if any).


4.  Enable Dim Lock Screen and Sleep Screen for fewer distractions.


🔄Step 5: Automate Sleep Focus


Option 1: Set a Schedule

       • Tap Add Schedule or Automation.

       • Choose Time.

       • Set bedtime and wake-up time.


Option 2: Use Health App (Recommended)

       • Open the Health app.

       • Go to Sleep → Set a sleep schedule.

       • Enable Use Schedule for Sleep Focus.


Sleep Focus will activate automatically at bedtime and turn off when you wake up.


📱Step 6: Sync Across Devices


To ensure Focus Modes work on all Apple devices:

       • Go to Settings Focus.

       • Enable Share Across Devices.


Now your iPhone, iPad, and Mac will follow the same Focus schedule.


💡Quick Tip


You can customize each Focus with different Home Screens and Lock Screens to visually separate Work and Sleep modes. This makes it easier to stay in the right mindset throughout the day.
