How
to Reset the Root User Password on macOS

Steps:
1.
Open
System Settings:
·
Click
the Apple menu and select System Settings (or System
Preferences).
2.
Access
User & Groups:
·
Go
to User & Groups from the settings menu.
3.
Open
Network Account Server Settings:
·
At
the bottom of the right, look for the Network Account Server and
press the Edit... button to next to it.
4.
Launch
Directory Utility:
·
In
the small window that pops up, choose Open Directory Utility.
5.
Unlock
the Tool:
·
Once
Directory Utility opens, click the Lock icon in the lower
corner and type your admin password or use Touch ID to unlock it.
6.
Change
the Root Password:
·
Go
to the top menu bar, click Edit, and select Change Root
Password.
·
Type
New Password and Confirm It.
