How to Fix Kernal-Task High CPU Usage on Mac

 

·     Example: macOS

·     Steps:

 

1.  Reboot Your Mac:

A quick restart can clean system glitches and cool down your mac.

·     Click the Apple icon.

·     Choose Restart.

 

          

 

·     Confirm by clicking Restart again.

 

       

 

2.  Stop Your Mac from Overheating:

Heat makes kernel-task use more CPU.

·     Close heavy apps: Shut app like games, browsers, or video editor.

·     Move to a cooler spot: Use it on hard surface.

·     Clean vents: Use a soft brush or compressed air to remove dust.

 

3.  Remove Apps You Don’t Use:

·     Open Launchpad (click Dock icon or press F4).

 

     

 

·     Find the app > Click and hold it until it wiggles.

·     Click the X to delete.

 

       

 

·     Empty the Bin to free up space.

 

  

 

4.  Update macOS:

Updates fix bugs that may causes CPU spikes.

·     Backup your files first.

·     Go to Apple menu > System Settings.

 

     

 

·     Click General > Software Update.

 

     

 

·     If an update is there, click Update Now.

 

    

 

·     Follow the steps and let your Mac restart.

 

5.  Reset PRAM/NVRAM:

For Intel Mac:

·     Turn Off your Mac.

 

 

·     Turn it on and immediately hold Option + Command + P + R.

 

          

 

·     Hold until your Mac restarts twice.

 

Note: M1/M2 Macs reset this automatically during restart.
