How to Easily Recover Corrupted Files


·     Example: Windows

·     Steps:

 

1.  Use Previous Versions with File History or a Restore Point:

·     If you set up File History or created a Restore Points, you can easily restore these older versions to get back your data.

                 I.  Check if you have file History:

·     Go to Settings > Updates & Security > Backup.

 

         

 

·     Ensure File History is Enabled.

 

            

 

               II.  Check If you Have a Restore Points:

·     Click the Start button, then search for create a restore point.

 

              

 

·     Make sure system protection is enabled.

 

                   

 

             III.  Restore a Previous Version:

·     Right-click the Corrupted file or folder.

·     Select Restore previous version to recover the earlier saved version.

 

            

 

2.  Restore Files from a Backup:

·     If you’ve backed up your files using Windows 7 Backup, you can restore them.

                 I.  Check if you have Backup:

·     Open Control Panel > System and Security.

 

      

 

               II.  Backup and Restore (Windows 7):

·     Click Restore files from backup.

 

      

 

             III.  Choose Restore my Files:

 

 

             IV.  Click Browser for files:

 

        

 

               V.  Navigate to the folder that stores the backup file. Click it, then click Add files.

 

 

 

             VI.  Back in the Restore Files window, select the file you want to restore and click Next.

 

                 

 

           VII.  You can restore it to its original location or choose a New Folder.

 

          

 

3.  Run the SFC Scannow Command:

·     The (System File Checker) command can help fix corrupted system files.

 

                 I.  Open Command Prompt as Administrator:

·     Search for CMD in the start menu right-click, and select Run as Administrator.

               II.  Run the Command:

·     Type sfc /scannow and press Enter.

·     Wait for it to scan and repair any issues with your system files.

 

          

 

4.  Use the CHKDSK Command:

                 I.  Open Command Prompt as Administrator:

·     Search for CMD in the start menu right-click, and select Run as Administrator.

               II.  Run the CHKDSK Command:

·     Type chkdsk c: /f /r (replace c: with the letter of the drive containing your corrupted file) and hit Enter.

·     Wait for the process to complete, then check if the file is fixed.

 

       

 

5.  Change the File to Another Format:

·     Sometimes, changing the file format can help open a corrupted file.

 

                 I.  Open Microsoft Office:

·     Open the document using its original app (we’re using Microsoft Word).

·     Click File/Office button > Save as

·     Use the dropdown menu to select a new format (for ex. HTML or PDF) for your document, then click Save.

 

         

 

6.  Use Microsoft Office’s Open and Repair tools:

·     Microsoft office has a built-in tool to help repair corrupted Words, Excel, PowerPoints files.

·     In Microsoft Word/Excel/Powerpoint, click File/Office button > Open.

·     Find the folder where your damaged file is stored.

·     Click your file, then click the arrow beside Open > Open and Repair.

 

         

 

7.  Try an Online File Repair Tool:

·     Visit an online repair tool like OnlineFile.Repair or OnlineFileRepair.com.
