How to Fix Security Lockout and Reset Your iPhone After Forgetting the Passcode

 

·      Example: iPhone (iOS 17 and later all)

·      Steps:

 

1.  Trigger the Unavailable Screen:

·      On your devices Lock Screen, try entering your passcode several times until you see the message: “[Device] Unavailable.” Your device will ask you try again later.

 

2.  Tap Forgot Password:

·      Once theUnavailablescreen appears, tap the Forgot Passcode? Link at the bottom of the screen.

                          The iPhone Unavailable screen in iOS 17 or later includes a Forgot Passcode? option.

 

3.  Start the Device Reset:

·      On the Security Lockout screen, tap Start [Device] Reset to being the process.

 

4.  Sign Out of Apple ID:

·      Youll be prompted to enter your Apple ID password to sign out of your Apple ID on the device.

 

5.  Erase your Device:

Ø Tap Erase [Device] to delete all your data and settings.

Ø If you use eSIM with iOS 17 or later, you can choose.

·      Keep your eSIM and erase all data.

·      Delete your eSIM and erase all data.

 

                           When you go through the process to reset your passcode in iOS 17 and later, you can choose to keep your eSIM or delete your eSIM.

 

6.  Complete the Reset:

·      After your device restarts, follow the instructions to set it up again, restore from a backup, and set a new password.

 

Note:

·      The Security Lockout screen appears. If you have an active mobile or Wi-Fi connection and Find My was enabled on your device.

·      After trying to enter the passcode incorrectly 10 times, your device will either:

·      Automatically erase itself.

·      Show the Security Lockout screen with the Forgot Passcode? Option (without a timer), depending on your setting.
