Steps:
1.
Open
System Preferences:

Click
the Apple menu in the top-left corner of your screen.

System Preferences.
2.
Navigate
to Security & Privacy:

the System Preferences window, click Security & Privacy.
3.
Go
to the File-Vault Tab:

In
the Security & Privacy window, select the File-Vault tab at
the top.
4.
Unlock
to Make Changes:

Click
the lock icon in the bottom-left corner.
·
Enter
your Mac Password when prompted to Unlock.
5.
Turn
On Fire-Vault:

Click
on turn on Fire-Vault
6.
Choose
a Recovery Option:

how to unlock your disk if forget your password:

Apple
ID: Use your
Apple ID to recover Access.

Recovery
Key: Save or write
down unique key for recovery.
7.
Encryption
Begins:

After
setup, encryption starts in the background. You can continue
using your Mac while it encrypts.

encryption process may take some time depending on the amount of data on your
Mac.
